A Different Kind of Lawn-Care Company

You Deal Directly With the Person Doing the Work

Aerating Thatching Co. is owner-operated. When you work with the company, you are working directly with Stewart. He personally reviews lawn-care needs, communicates with homeowners and performs the lawn service himself.

That direct involvement means there is no handoff from a salesperson to an unknown technician. The person discussing the lawn with you is also the person responsible for carrying out the work.

Stewart specializes in lawn aeration, Dethatching (Power Raking), overseeding, fertilizing and lawn renovation. His goal is to help homeowners choose work that matches the actual condition of the lawn rather than automatically assuming every lawn needs the same service.

What Owner on Every Job Means

One Person. Direct Accountability.

  • You communicate directly with Stewart.
  • Stewart personally evaluates the information you provide about your lawn.
  • Stewart performs the lawn work himself.
  • Recommendations can be matched to the lawn rather than a one-size-fits-all package.
  • Questions about the work go directly to the person who performed it.
Education & Professional Development

A Turf Education That Started Long Before the Business

Stewart's turf-management education began years before he founded Aerating Thatching Co. His background combines formal study, training with experienced turf professionals, continuing education and decades of applying that knowledge to residential lawns.

Stewart began his formal turf education with a Golf Course Construction and Design course at Bellevue Community College, taught by Jerry Mackie.

1994

Turf Management Studies

Stewart later majored in turf management at South Seattle Community College, expanding his understanding of turf care and management.

From Education to Residential Lawns

Applying Turf Knowledge Where Homeowners Actually Need It

Formal education matters most when it helps make better decisions in the field. Stewart uses his training and experience to look at how the lawn surface, soil conditions, grass density and seasonal stresses work together before deciding what level of service makes sense.

1

Soil Compaction

Core Aeration can help open compacted soil by removing plugs, improving pathways for air and water into the lawn's root zone.

2

Thatch & Surface Buildup

Thatch is a layer of living and dead stems, roots and other organic material between the green grass and soil surface. When excessive, Dethatching (Power Raking) may be appropriate to open the lawn surface.

3

Thin or Weak Grass

When lawn density is part of the problem, overseeding can be paired with appropriate preparation and starter fertilizer rather than treating compaction alone.

4

More Complete Lawn Renovation

Lawns with heavier surface buildup, thinning or multiple problems may benefit from a more complete approach that combines several complementary services.

Owner on Every Job

Stewart Doesn't Just Own the Company. He Does the Work.

For homeowners, the owner-operated model creates a simpler relationship. You are not explaining the lawn to one person and hoping the details make it to somebody else.

Stewart is personally involved from the initial request through the lawn service itself. That gives homeowners direct access to the person responsible for the work and allows recommendations to remain grounded in what the lawn actually needs.

Direct Communication Your questions and lawn concerns go directly to Stewart.
Personal Recommendations The goal is to choose an appropriate service rather than automatically sell the largest package.
Personal Workmanship Stewart personally performs the lawn services offered by Aerating Thatching Co.
Direct Accountability If you have a question about the work, you can communicate with the person who actually performed it.
Stewart's Approach

Education First. Then the Right Level of Lawn Care.

Lawn care is not improved by automatically doing more work. Stewart's approach is to understand what the lawn is doing, explain the available options and match the service to the condition of the lawn.

Recommend What Fits

A reasonably healthy lawn may need less work than a thin or heavily thatched lawn. The service should fit the condition rather than the other way around.

Explain the Why

Homeowners should understand what a service is intended to accomplish and how it relates to the lawn problem they are trying to improve.

Keep Learning

Stewart continues to build on his formal turf education through professional training, field experience and continued study.

Beyond Lawn Care

Travel, Fitness & Time in Thailand

Outside of work, Stewart is an avid traveler and fitness enthusiast. During the lawn-care off-season, he spends time in Thailand exploring the country's culture, landscapes and spiritual traditions.

The video shown here was filmed during one of Stewart's visits to temples in Ban Pong, Hang Dong District, Chiang Mai, Thailand. These annual trips give him time to recharge before returning to Seattle for another busy lawn-care season.

It is a glimpse at the person behind Aerating Thatching Co. when he is away from lawns, equipment and the day-to-day work of running the business.
